The Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators tests (ETS) are the entry gate to many teacher-preparation programs and state licensure paths: a Reading test built on close comprehension of paired and single passages, a Writing test covering usage, sentence correction, revision, and two short essays, and a Mathematics test spanning number and quantity, algebra and functions, geometry, and statistics with data reading (an on-screen calculator is provided). States set their own qualifying scores, and many programs accept SAT/ACT scores in lieu — check your state and program first.

It depends on your state and program: some require the Core for program admission or licensure, some accept SAT/ACT/GRE scores instead, and a growing number have dropped the requirement entirely. Check your state education agency and your program’s admissions page before scheduling anything.
What scores do I need?
Each state sets its own qualifying scores per test (commonly in the 150–162 band on ETS’s 100–200 scale). Your state agency publishes the current cutoffs — treat those as the target and verify them close to your test date, since they get revised.
How should I prepare?
Diagnose first, then spend most of your time on your weakest test — for many candidates that’s math after years away from it. Adaptive drills rebuild algebra, geometry, and data skills fastest because they stay at your edge; for writing, drill usage and revision items until the common error patterns (agreement, parallelism, comma splices) are automatic.
