The HESI A2 (Admission Assessment) is Elsevier’s nursing-school entrance exam — the other major gatekeeper alongside the ATI TEAS. Unlike the TEAS, the HESI A2 is modular: it offers a menu of academic subtests — math, reading comprehension, vocabulary and general knowledge, grammar, biology, chemistry, anatomy & physiology, and physics — and each nursing program chooses which sections its applicants take, along with the time limits. Two applicants at different schools can sit meaningfully different exams, so your program’s admission page is the first thing to read.
Whatever mix your program requires, the sections reward built skills: the math is everyday arithmetic, ratios, and conversions; the verbal sections lean on vocabulary (including health-context words) and careful reading; and the science sections — anatomy & physiology above all — reward steady study. Which HESI A2 sections will I have to take?
Whichever your program chooses — that’s the defining feature of the HESI A2. The exam is administered by (or for) the school, which picks the subtests and time limits, so the authoritative answer is on your program’s admissions page or in its application packet. What score do I need on the HESI A2?
There is no universal passing score — each program sets its own minimums, sometimes per section and sometimes as a composite. Many programs publish cutoffs in the region of 75% or higher for the sections they require, but the spread is wide and competitive programs want more, so treat your program’s published number as the target and aim comfortably above it.
Why is there no full-length HESI practice test here?
Because there is no fixed HESI A2 to simulate: schools choose the sections and time limits, so any fixed question mix would be an invention rather than a rehearsal — and honest practice doesn’t invent blueprints. TEAS vs HESI A2 — what’s the difference?
They’re the two dominant nursing entrance exams from different publishers: the ATI TEAS (a fixed 170-question, 209-minute exam with four set sections) and Elsevier’s HESI A2 (a modular menu of subtests your school picks from). You don’t choose between them — your program does, so check its admissions page. The underlying skills overlap heavily (reading, math, vocabulary, grammar, and A&P-led science), and Keentune has a prep page for each.
