The diagonal system, flag signals, and positioning
Master the craft of refereeing a soccer match — the mechanics that separate knowing the Laws from applying them. Learn the diagonal system of control (how the referee and assistant referees split and cover the field), referee positioning and reading play, the assistant referees duties and their flag signals (offside near, middle, and far; throw-in direction; corner versus goal kick; substitutions), the referee signals (advantage, the direct versus indirect free kick, the penalty, and the cards), pre-match preparation and teamwork, and match and time management from added time to ceremonial free kicks. Each question teaches the mechanic and names the classic error. Authored from public refereeing guidance using original questions — never real exam items — and aligned to the IFAB Laws.
